Percussion@Peeler Thursday, December 4, 2014, 6:30pm Peeler Art Center, University Gallery (lower level) The DePauw Percussion Ensemble, directed by Bonnie Whiting, presents its annual program of contemporary solo and chamber works—composed and improvised—in a non-traditional concert setting. The one-hour performance, in conjunction with the multi-media art exhibition Infinite Mirror: Images of American Identity, fuses contemporary art and music in the galleries at Peeler. Refreshments will be served following the event. |

ArtsFest Lecture: Japanese Theatre and Drama Lunch and lecture with Professors Hiroko Chiba and Pauline Ota Thursday, November 6, 2014, 11:45 – 12:30 Peeler Art Center, Room 103 In collaboration with Artsfest 2014: Art and Laughter, please join us for a discussion on Japanese theatre as it relates to comedy. The lecture will be led by Pauline Ota (Department of Art and Art History) and Hiroko Chiba (Department of Asian Studies), and will highlight objects from DePauw’s collection of Japanese art and artifacts. Join Marla Helton of Serendipity Yoga Studio for an hour of pure restorative bliss. Discover harmony and balance with this wonderfully relaxing restorative class. Beginning with a short warm up , this class uses multiple props to provide the nourishment to your body that leads to deep relaxation and restoration. This therapeutic style of yoga allows the body to surrender into each pose in a supportive environment for total relaxation. You really won’t want to leave. . . Infinite Mirror Lecture Wednesday, September 24, 2014, 4:15pm Peeler Art Center, Auditorium Benito Huerta, Professor of Painting and Director/Curator of the gallery program at University of Texas Arlington, will lecture on contemporary art as it relates to the exhibition Infinite Mirror: Images of American Identity. Mr. Huerta is one of several co-curators who selected works for this national traveling exhibition sponsored by the IMLS and NEA. A reception will follow in the Peeler lobby. |
A Lecture with Artist Caleb Weintraub Wednesday, September 10, 2014, 4:15pm Peeler Art Center, Auditorium Caleb Weintraub, Assistant Professor of Art at Indiana University, will discuss his latest body of work on display at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center. Weintraub creates paintings and sculptures that convey far flung narratives that examine ritual, memory, and collective fears/fantasies. Behind the Scenes: DePauw Exhibitions and University Collections (Alumni College) Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1:15pm Peeler Art Center, main lobby Have you ever wondered how galleries and museums create exhibitions and care for objects in their collections? Join DePauw University curator, Craig Hadley, for a behind-the-scenes tour of exhibition prep spaces and a look at what’s involved in creating an exhibition and caring for fine art. We’ll also look at some of the treasures in the DePauw University Permanent Art Collection, including prints by Andy Warhol, paintings by the Impressionist painter TC Steele, and 19th century Japanese woodblock prints. |
