Tigers drop pair to top two
regional teams; finish at 12-5
The Tigers dropped a pair of 2-1
decisions at the regional tournament and finished the
season with a 12-5 record. On Saturday DePauw trailed 2-0
before Lindsay Perry cut the margin to 2-1 midway through
the second half. However, that's all the Tigers could
muster against the top- ranked team in the region. On
Sunday, Denison scored twice in the first half before the
Tigers' Caroline Kennedy cut the lead in half with a
score with 8:42 remaining.
Tigers to face Wittenberg in regional
tournament
The pairings have been released for
Saturday and Sunday's regional tournament and the Tigers,
seeded second in the KIT, will play Wittenberg, the
number one seed of the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Game time is at 1 p.m. at Hanover. DePauw takes on
Denison at 1 p.m. on Sunday. One team from the Great
Lakes Region earns a spot into the NCAA Division III
Championship, but there is no automatic bid into the
tournament for winning this weekend.
Tigers score three first-half goals on
way to 3-0 victory over Hanover
The Tigers improved to 11-3 on the
season with a 3-0 win at Hanover on Tuesday. DePauw
scored all three of its goals in the first half as Dawn
Ahlgren, Emily Lill and Chris Brown each scored. The
Tigers now travel back to Hanover to compete in the
Midwest Regional where they will face the top team from
the North Coast Athletic Conference on Saturday.
Tigers advance to KIT semifinals, but
fall to Sewanee in heartbreaking title game
The top-seeded Tigers easily disposed
of Bellarmine in the semifinals of the KIT Tournament at
Centre by a 4-1 score, but lost in the title match to
Sewanee by a 2-0 count. Against Bellarmine, the Tigers
scored three goals in just under six minutes of one
another during the first half to take a commanding 3-0
halftime lead. Lisa Goecke scored twice and assisted on a
third to lead the Old Gold. The win set up a championship
battle with Sewanee and the teams battled through 69
minutes and 12 seconds of a scoreless tie before
Sewanee's Nicky Campbell scored the first of her two
goals with just 48 seconds left. The second came just 23
seconds later and gave Sewanee a 2-0 win.
Tigers seeded first in KIT Tournament
The Tigers enter this weekend's
Kentucky-Indiana-Tennessee tournament at Centre seeded
first among the seven-team field. The Tigers play at
12:30 p.m. on Saturday and take on the winner of
Bellarmine and Transylvania. Should they win that
contest, they would then play for the title at 4:30 p.m.
Tigers blank Hanover 6-0 to win state
tournament and improve to 10-2
Five different Tigers scored on the way
to a 6-0 win over Hanover at McKeen Field. The win gives
the Tigers the state tournament. DePauw was scheduled to
also play Earlham, but the Quakers were unable to
participate. Seven Tigers were named to the all-state
team including: Beth Chapman, Lisa Goecke, Lindsay Perry,
Emily Lill, Cindy Davis, Chris Brown and Cara Duckworth.
Weather and poor field conditions
force postponement of game at Hanover
Steady rains in Southern Indiana forced
the postponement of Tuesday's field hockey game between
DePauw and Hanover. The game has been rescheduled for 4
p.m. on October 27.
Tigers blank Bellarmine 5-0 to move to
9-2
Lindsay Perry scored twice to lead the
Tigers to a
5-0 win over Bellarmine.The 9-2 Tigers scored three times in the first
period and outshot the Knights 27-3.
Wittenberg outshoots DePauw 22-2; wins
key regional match 2-0
Host Wittenberg outshot DePauw 22-2 on
the way to a
2-0 win on Wednesday.
The hosts scored with just 2:32 left in the first half
and again with 30:03 remaining in the second. The Tigers
fell to 8-2 with the loss.
Tigers improve to 8-1 with 10-0
blanking of Rhodes
Lisa Goecke recorded a hat trick and
added an assit to lead the Tigers to a 10-0 shutout of
visiting Rhodes. The Tigers'
8-1 start is the best since the 1990 team opened with a
13-0-2 record.
Tigers back on winning ways; blank
Sewanee 3-0
DePauw ranked, second in the Great
Lakes Region, scored once in the first half and twice in
the second to
blank visiting Sewanee by a 3-0 score. Sewanee entered the game ranked third in the
region.
Tigers fall to Big Red for first loss
of the season
The Tigers travelled to Denison
University on Wednesday for a key mid-week regional clash
with the Big Red. DePauw fell by a 1-0 score and dropped
to 6-1 on the season. Denison improved to 5-5.
Tigers move to 6-0 with thrilling win
at Centre
The Tigers and Centre College battled
on Saturday to a 2-2 tie through regulation and overtime,
but the Tigers took the win when the match went to
penalty strokes. On Friday, DePauw defeated Transylvania
6-0.
Tigers are 4-0 after two wins in Ohio
The 1998 Tigers are off to a fast start
at 4-0 after sweeping past Oberlin 1-0 and
Kenyon, 2-1. The
Tigers travel to Transylvania Friday.
Tigers post two impressive wins to
open 1998 season; travel to Kenyon for a pair of weekend
matches
Opening with a 5-0 victory at Earlham
and defeating Wooster 6-1 at home, the Tigers are off to
a fast start. They travel to Kenyon College on Saturday
where the will face Oberlin. On Sunday, they take on the
host Kenyon College.
