SERIES RECORD: Hope leads the all-time series 15-14 after winning last year in Greencastle by a 20-10 score. DePauw has won the last two times in Holland by scores of 13-7 in 1995 and 33-20 in 1997. Hope’s last win at home in the rivalry came in 1993 by a 21-10 count.

COACHES: Nick Mourouzis is in his 19th season and his teams have compiled a 110-67-4 record. He is 9-9 against Hope. The 1959 Miami University graduate has won more games than any football coach in DePauw history and was the ICAC Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1996 after leading the Tigers to the conference championship both years. He ranks 21st among active Division III coaches in terms of victories.

Dean Kreps is in his fifth season at Hope and his teams are 17-20. Against DePauw, Kreps is 1-3.

LAST WEEK: The Tigers lost at home to Illinois Wesleyan, 28-20. Hope lost at home to Augustana in double overtime, 34-33.

REVIEWING LAST YEAR’S MEETING: Despite holding Hope to just 185 yards of offense, the Tigers lost their home opener to the Flying Dutchmen, 20-10. DePauw failed to score four times while inside the Flying Dutchmen 20 yardline.

Hope scored on the first possession of the game, but the Tigers knotted the score early in the second quarter on Johnathon Stigall’s three-yard run. Brian Hurey’s 26-yard field goal at the end of the first half gave the Old Gold a 10-7 advantage.

Hope then scored on its first possession of the second half, but the Tiger defense held them to just four more first downs the remainder of the game. A crucial fourth down fumble in the fourth quarter by the Tigers, deep in Hope territory, gave the Flying Dutchmen the ball and four plays later they held a 10-point lead which they wouldn’t relinquish.

Marty Gravelyn led Hope with 107 rushing yards. Fullback David Schubert caught seven passes for the Tigers. Todd Tester paced Hope with nine tackles with Jon Secrest and Matt MacPherson each recording nine for the Tigers.

TIGER NOTES: Kurt Hare’s 24 completions against Illinois Wesleyan were the most by a Tiger quarterback in a game since Bernie Haskins completed 24 against Hanover in 1997 … Hare’s 91 attempts in the first two games are the most in back-to-back games by a Tiger quarterback since Brian Goodman attempted 44 against Hope and 47 against Millsaps in 1992 … The Tigers have attempted 134 consecutive passes without being sacked dating back to the first half of the Rose-Hulman game on 11/7/98 … Hare’s 1,689 career passing yards rank 13th in school history. He needs 25 to surpass Chip Jordan’s (1982-85) 1,1713 … Joe Schoen’s seven catches against Illinois Wesleyan were the most by a DePauw receiver in a game since David Schubert caught seven last year against Hope … His 114 receiving yards were the most since Johnathon Stigall’s 141 yards last year against Chicago … DePauw has not scored in the first quarter of a game this season … The Tigers lead the SCAC in passing yards per game with 247.5 … Schoen leads the SCAC in receptions with 13 and is second in all-purpose yards with 143.5 per game … In each of the last three seasons, the Tigers have won their first road game … The Tigers’ 0-2 start is their worst since 1994 when they opened the year with losses in their first six games … The Tigers’ 114-player roster consists of 57 freshmen, 20 sophomores, 21 juniors and 16 seniors … Players on the 1999 squad hail from 12 different states led by Indiana with 68, Illinois with 14 and Florida with 13.

UP NEXT: The Tigers travel to Trinity University in San Antonio for next Saturday’s SCAC game against the second-ranked and 1998 NCAA semifinalist Tigers.
