DePauw vs. Centre Game Notes


GAME INFORMATION
The Tigers take on the Centre College Colonels in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown at Farris Stadium in Danville, Kentucky, with kickoff at 1:30 p.m. EDT (12:30 p.m. in Greencastle). The Tigers are 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC after defeating Sewanee last week, 14-13. Centre is 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC after last week's 25-21 home win over Trinity. That win snapped Trinity's 35-game regular season win streak.

 

SERIES RECORD
DePauw leads the all-time series 6-2 after a 26-23 victory in Greencastle last year. The Tigers won the last meeting in Danville by a 14-7 score in 1998.

 

COACHES
DePauw's Nick Mourouzis is in his 20th season with the Tigers and his teams have posted a 118-74-4 record. Centre's Andy Frye is 12-15 in his third season with the Colonels.



SCOUTING CENTRE
Drew Mildren's 14-yard pass to Joe Guthrie with 36 seconds left lifted Centre to a 25-21 win over visiting Trinity and snapped the Tigers' regular-season win streak at 35 games.

Mildren has completed 5.5 percent of his passes for 1,320 yards and eight touchdowns, but has thrown 13 interceptions. Guthrie and Jeremy Gomez are his top receivers with 29 catches apiece. Guthrie has totaled 328 yards and two touchdowns with Gomez added 327 yards and three scores. Travis Bell leads the ground game with nearly 54 rushing yards per contest and a 4.4 yard-per-carry average.

 

Centre has the SCAC's best pass defense in terms of yards allowed per game at just 134.6. They are second in pass efficiency defense at 94.2 points. Opposing team have completed just 39 percent of their passes against the Colonels. All-SCAC defensive back Eric Heyman leads the Colonels with 40 tackles followed by Joey Clausing and David Line with 32 each.

THE LAST DEPAUW GAME (full story)
Dan Ryan's 5-yard reception from Jason Lee with 50 seconds remaining and Ben Murray's point-after lifted DePauw to a 14-13 come-from-behind Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over host Millsaps College. DePauw improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC with their third straight win, while the Majors fell to 4-3 and 2-2.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Sophomore receiver Dan Ryan is ranked 12th in Division III with 112.7 receiving yards per game and senior Joe Schoen is 12th with 7.4 reception per contest. Ryan is 28th in scoring with 9.4 points per game. As a team the Tigers rank 17th in Division III passing offense wih 272.3 yards per outing.

 

DEPAUW NOTES
The Tigers have scored on 17 of 21 possessions in the red zone for 101 points, while opponents are 13 of 19 for 65 points ... Joe Schoen and Dan Ryan continue to rank first and second in the SCAC in both receptions and receiving yards per game ... Ryan leads the conference in all-purpose yards per game (112.7) and scoring (9.4) ...Ryan, who had tied the school record for touchdown receptions in a season, has topped the 100-yard receiving mark in four of the last five games and five times in the 17 games he's played ... Jason Lee's five consecutive games of 200 or more passing yards is the longest such streak since Bernie Haskins finished the 1996 season with five straight. No player has ever had more than five in a row in a season ... The DePauw defense has held each of its last two opponents under 30 rushing yards marking the first time that's occurred since the 1983 team limited Hope to 29 and Rose-Hulman to -2 in back-to-back games ... Ben Murray tops the SCAC in field goal percentage as he's hit four of five for 80 percent ... DePauw has now won 20 of 22 games over the second half of the last five seasons and all 11 following the midseason break of each of the last three seasons ... Schoen moved into seventh place on the DePauw all-time receptions list with 125 and also ranks seventh with 1,616 career receiving yards. His 52 catches this season is one more than he had all of last season and ranks sixth in school history ... Ryan's 66 points is tied for fifth in school history. Johnathon Stigall holds the DePauw record with 102 in 1998 ... Ryan's 789 receiving yards this season is the fifth-highest single-season total by any DePauw receiver. Jamie Cunha is the all-time leader with 936 ... Jason Lee's 1,744 passing yards this year ranks sixth in school history for a season.

DEPAUW'S WEEK-FIVE MVPs
The Tigers' coaching staff selected four players as MVPs of the Millsaps game. Dan Ryan earned honors on offense with nine catches for 217 yards and both DePauw touchdowns. Alson Jacquet and Frisky Williams shared the honors on defense. Jacquet totaled seven tackles including six for losses totaling 24 yards. Three of those were sacks for 19 yards in losses. He also was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week. Williams finished with four tackles including two for losses of four yards. Freddy Marrero earned honors for his play on special teams including a tackle on the fourth quarter kickoff that ended in a 2-yard loss on the return.
