ROBERT A. BRADLEY '35
Inducted: 1988
A triple threat on the football field, Bob Bradley was the team's top
runner, passer and kicker. As a sophomore he scored his first collegiate
touchdown: a fourth quarter score against Wabash which gave the Tigers a
come-from-behind victory. He was named to the Indianapolis Star's
all-state second team, and was the leading scorer in the state of Indiana
during the 1933 season. Bradley was also an excellent swimmer at DePauw.
In 1932 he earned a first place in the backstroke against the 1924 world
champion in a meet with Indiana University. During the 1933-34 season
Bradley took firsts in diving competition in all but one meet. He worked
as an assistant freshman football coach, a football scout, and an
instructor of freshman gym and swimming classes during the fall of 1934.
Following graduation, he joined Franklin National Life Co., and in 1937
moved to Lincoln National Bank and Trust Company of Ft. Wayne. He was with
Lincoln National until 1977; he was named senior vice president and trust
officer in 1974. Bradley also served active duty in the Philippine Islands
and Korea during World War II, advancing to the rank of Major in the Army.
Active in the reserve Army from 1948 to 1958, Bradley advanced to the rank
of Lieutenant Colonel in 1956. Bradley has also served in four different
corporate directorships and has been involved in several civic
organizations in Indiana's St. Joseph County.
