WILLIS "BING" DAVIS '59
Inducted: 1991
Bing Davis played forward for the basketball team and was a high jumper on
the track squad at DePauw. He earned all-conference honors in basketball.
He led the 1957-58 Tigers in points scored and in 1958-59 led the team in
scoring average. His 678 career points ranks 41st on DePauw's all-time
scoring list. Davis currently serves as chair of the Art Department at
Central State University and is also president of the National Consortium
of Arts and Letters for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His
work is world-renowned and is displayed in numerous museums, including a
permanent display in a Moscow art museum. Davis is also a past president
of the National Conference of Artists and was appointed by the governor to
the position of vice president of the Ohio Arts Council. His work has been
displayed at 35 solo and 50 group exhibitions. A past member of the DePauw
Board of Visitors, Davis received an Alumni Citation Award in 1984.
