ROBERT P. DOOLITTLE '29
Inducted: 1988
As a freshman at DePauw, Bob Doolittle organized the school's first swim
team in 1925. He also served as a student assistant in the Physical
Education department and taught swimming to men and life saving to women.
Captain and high point man of the team during his sophomore and junior
years, he was one of the top freestyle and backstroke swimmers in college
circles. After DePauw, Doolittle entered the Air Corps cadet training
program, and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. The real
estate business which he began in 1938 was put on hold as he was called to
active duty, serving as a bomber pilot and organizational officer in the
Army Air Force while stationed at Turner Field in Albany, Georgia. He
restarted his real estate business in 1948 and at the same time became
involved in civic activities and has served on several city and county
boards.
