MORRIS E. GOODNIGHT '58
Inducted: 1990
Morris "Morrie" Goodnight was an outstanding high school athlete and
turned down a basketball scholarship at the University of Illinois to
bring his great talent to DePauw. He played football and basketball all
four years and baseball his junior and senior years. An outstanding
quarterback, Morrie led the nation in passing percentage for small
colleges his senior year. He quarterbacked three straight wins over
Wabash, and in his senior year accounted for five touchdowns against the
Little Giants. His football teammates voted him Most Valuable Player his
senior year. In basketball he led his team in free throw percentage and
played on DePauw's only ICC championship team, which went to the NCAA
tournament. Since graduation he has taught school and served as a head
coach with winning records in both basketball and football. Presently
employed at South Central High School in LaPorte, Morrie has been named to
Who's Who in America.
