ROBERT R. HARVEY (Coach)
Inducted: 1990
Bob Harvey coached cross country and track for a combined 51 years. A 1936
graduate of Earlham College, Bob earned graduate degrees from Columbia and
Indiana. After coaching at Bainbridge and Mooresville high schools and
Franklin College, Bob joined the DePauw faculty in 1951. Bob led his
DePauw teams to ICC championships in 1957 and 1959, a tie in 1958, three
second place finishes and nine third place finishes. Bob's teams won two
Little State titles and finished in the top five 17 times. At the GLCA
track and field meet, Bob coached his teams to championships in 1964 and
1974, finished second twice and third four times. In 1968 Coach Harvey was
voted ICC Cross Country Coach of the Year. Bob's leadership was recognized
nationally when he was named a member of the NCAA Track and Field Cross
Country Rules Committee as well as Chairman of the Division III Cross
Country Rules Committee. He also served in a number of other capacities
for DePauw athletics, including three years as varsity basketball coach
and 15 years as director of intramurals. He retired from DePauw in 1978.
In 1989, Bob received the Mooresville High School Outstanding Alumni
Award.
