Robert F. Kyle ’78 earned two letters in baseball at DePauw in 1977 and 1978. In 1977 Kyle earned first team all-district and all-conference honors and led all NCAA Division III pitchers with 14 victories. Additionally, he was honored with the 1977 team pitching and most valuable player awards and in the 1978 hitting, pitching and MVP awards. In his two-year career, Kyle totaled 18 wins, 105 strikeouts in 167.2 innings pitched. After graduating from DePauw, Kyle played independent baseball from 1978-85. He earned honors as the league’s leading pitcher (1980-84), leading hitter (1983, 1984) and league MVP (1984). He earned a M.A.T. degree from DePauw in 1984 and is a health teacher and baseball coach at Rockville High School. He has served as a coach of a variety of sports at numerous levels, including Babe Ruth, American Legion and high school baseball. Kyle has served on the Indiana High School All-State Selection Committee, IHSAA Baseball Coaches Association, National Baseball Coaches Association and IHSAA Basketball Coaches Association. In 1983 he earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for free throw shooting. Kyle and his wife, Pam, have two daughters, Jessica and Emily, and reside in Clinton, Ind.
