GEORGE E. LORTZ '34
Inducted: 1986
Captain and center of the famed undefeated, untied, and unscored upon 1933
team as well as the 1932 team, George Lortz also earned letters in
basketball, gained Phi Beta Kappa honors and won the Walker Cup as an
undergraduate. He earned all-state honors at center and, according to one
report, made more than half the tackles on defense as a roving nose guard.
He joined the General Electric Company right out of DePauw and retired in
1975 after holding several executive posts. In Raleigh, NC, his home he is
an officer and board member of numerous social agencies and in 1983
received the Governor's Award as Outstanding Volunteer. He serves DePauw
as Class Agent for the Class of '34 and from 1977-83 was a member of the
DePauw Alumni Association Board of Directors.
