JAMES C. LOVELESS '29
Inducted: 1986
A native of rural Francisco, IN, Jim Loveless won three varsity letters in
basketball and three in football. He was captain of the 1928-29 basketball
team and a Rector Scholar. Later he coached high school in Indiana,
Michigan, and Oklahoma then went to Grove City College as athletic
director and coach from 1937 to 1954. He returned to his alma mater in
1954 as athletic director and became president of Indiana coaches
associations and a key figure on several NCAA committees. He is a member
of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and the Helms Foundation Hall of
Fame. He was instrumental in the expansion of the athletic and physical
education facilities and program at DePauw from which he retired in 1974.
