LESTER B. "SKIP" MATHIESON '57

Inducted: 1991

Skip Mathieson played fullback for the DePauw football team. A year after graduation, he returned to DePauw as an assistant football coach prior to moving on to Bement, Ill., High School as head coach in 1960. In three seasons he posted a record of 11-3-2 and won a conference championship. After a 7-1 season at Falconer, N.Y. High School he took over at Indianapolis Howe High School. Howe had not won a game in three years, but Mathieson directed the team to 13 wins in three years and a city championship. Mathieson served as the head coach at Millikin University where his teams were 42-38, won two conference championships and appeared in two bowl games. He also was the school's athletic director for 10 years. After serving as an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, Mathieson founded and developed Touchdown Sportswear, Inc., a 40-location retail chain in regional shopping malls. He has already been inducted into the Mercer County and Millikin University Halls of Fame.
