MARY LOUISE MILLER (COACH)
Inducted: 1993
A leader in the area of physical education, Mary Louise Miller was the
head of DePauw's women's physical education department from 1959 to 1974
and held the rank of full professor from 1965-74. The Rockford College
graduate was named a chair of the Women's National Aquatic Forum in 1953
and 20 years later was named an honorary life member. Over the years she
also served the Forum as a program and secretary chair and was on the
advisory board for six years. In 1990, her alma mater honored her with its
Alumni Award of Distinction. Before coming to DePauw, Miller taught
physical education and chemistry at Heidelberg College. She also served on
the executive committee of the Association of Synchronized Swimming from
1956-1960 and was an Aquatic Guide committee member from 1971-73. She
served as a synchronized swimming judge at intercollegiate meets and was
the adviser of DePauw's synchronized swimming club. She has authored
several articles related to sport and regularly addressed national
conferences.
