EARL "RED" PIERCE '35
Inducted: 1993
Red Pierce earned three varsity letters in football and was a member of
the 1933 team that finished the season undefeated, untied and unscored
upon. Pierce was a fullback for the Tigers and scored two touchdowns in
the 1933 win over Wabash, including the only pass reception of his career.
He earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior and first team
accolades following his senior season. During his sophomore year in a game
against Franklin he rushed 52 yards for a touchdown to lead the Tigers to
victory. While at DePauw, Pierce was also director of music and
choreography for the Monon Revue. An avid camper and outdoorsman, Pierce
also taught canoeing and sailing during his college years. In 1936 he went
to work for Anaconda American Brass Co., in his hometown of Kenosha, Wis.
Later he became a sales representative and then district sales manager in
Chicago. In 1961 he became vice-president of the Midwestern Sales Region,
which included 14 states. After two years as the general sales manager at
the corporate offices in Connecticut, Pierce became vice-president of
sales and marketing for Anaconda which later became Arco Metals. He
also served as a member of the corporate board. Pierce served on various
community boards over the years.
