Mark E. Rolfing '71

Inducted: 1999 

Mark Rolfing is a native of DeKalb, Ill., where he played football, basketball and golf.  He entered DePauw in 1967 majoring in political science.  He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon.  He made and immediate impact on the golf team, moving to number two man behind fraternity roommate, Dan Quayle ’69.  He was the only freshman to earn a letter that year.  He moved up to number-one spot his junior and senior years and was chosen captain and most valuable player his senior year.  As a junior, he led the team with a 77.1 stroke average.  During his senior year he tied for medallist honors at the GLCA Championships.  He turned professional in 1974, but had little success.  He moved to Hawaii in 1975 and rose to become director of marketing and recreation for the Kapalua Resort.  In that capacity, he created what has been one of the PGA Tour’s top post-season tournaments, The Lincoln-Mercury Kapulua International.  He was asked by ESPN to help with the announcing duties at that tournament, which has propelled him into what USA Today describes as “TV sports’ best on-course golf reporter.” He also develops golf courses in Hawaii and currently heads Rolfing Sports, Inc., a sports management consulting company, in addition to covering golf tournaments for NBC sports.
