DR. ROBERT W. SCHRIER '57
Inducted: 1986
A highly recruited senior at Indianapolis Howe High School, Bob Schrier
soon proved why. He letterd for four years in basketball and four years in
baseball, gaining all-Indiana Collegiate Conference honors numerous times
in both sports. Schrier was the leading basketball scorer in 1953-54,
1954-55, and 1955-56 and set one season scoring recordsfor DePauw two
consecutive years, the last one of 420 points. His career scoring record
of 1,415 points stood until the mid-70s. For his athletic and
extracurricular accomplishments he was awarded the Walker Cup as a senior.
Schrier studied on a Fulbright Scholarship after his graduation and earned
an M.D. at Indiana U. For the past 10 years he has been chairman of the
department of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
He has served the past two years as president of the National Kidney
Foundation. He is to be on leave this year at the University of Paris as a
John Simon Guggenheim Fellow.
