ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

Barton A. Simpson '75

Inducted: 1997

Bart Simpson is DePauw’s all-time leading career rusher with a total of 9,941 yards and the only 1,000-yard rusher in DePauw’s history.  Both statistics have stood for over 25 years.  He ranks fifth in al-time career scoring with 158 points, and third in all-purpose rushing yards with 3,051.  He was captain of the team his senior year.  He majored in botany and bacteriology. Following graduation, he worked for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. as an adjuster before moving to Moscow, Idaho, where he received a Masters in Science degree in Forest Resources from the University of Idaho in 1981.  Simpson joined Caterpillar Inc. in 1981.  Increased responsibilities took him back to Idaho (Boise) in 1986, where he was Intermountain West Regional Sales Representative.  He returned to Illinois in 1992 when he was promoted to manage marketing activities for Caterpillar’s new farm tractor line.  He was selected for the Hall of Fame in 1997, but was unable to attend, as he had just accepted a promotion to Singapore, where he is responsible for Caterpillar equipment sales in to the Forest Products industry in Asia.  He is married to Idaho native, Merrell, and has two children, James and Jacqueline.  The Simpsons live in Singapore
