RICHARD N. STURTRIDGE '27
Inducted: 1986
A rarity, Dick Sturtridge lettered in basketball, football, baseball and
track. Football and track were perhaps his strong suits for he finished
third in the decathlon in the Penn Relays in 1925 and second in the same
grueling event in 1927. He established a new scoring record in the Little
State track meet with 25 points in 1927 and set a new DePauw javelin
record that year with a toss of 178'4". In football he was elusive and
among his most memorable fears, according to incomplete records, was a
70-yard TD run against Hanover in 1924 and a 50-yard punt return against
Franklin a year later. Such "feats" were said to be common for Sturtridge
who was in business in the Los Angeles area at the time of his death in
1978.
