Alisa Beth Shuck Wickliff
'83
Inducted: 1997
Alisa Shuck Wickliff is a native of Indianapolis and one of DePauw's truly
outstanding female athletes. She qualified for three events at the
Division III National swim meet as a freshman by breaking four school
records at a triple dual meet against Ball State and Evansville. With this
performance, she became the first female swimmer in DePauw's history to
reach the Nationals. She went on to earn all-American status, DePauw's
first, in the 100-yard Individual medley, and the 100- and 50-yard
backstroke. She was a National qualifier all four years at DePauw. Alisa
earned her all-American status before the Lilly Center was built. The swim
team had to practice at one of the local high schools or in the old Bowman
gym pool, which was five yards short of regulation length. Clearly a great
swimmer, Alisa was also an honor scholar and a member of the University
orchestra. At one point she held 15 of the 18 DePauw records. Upon
graduation, she earned an additional bachelor's degree and a master's of
science in public policy at Purdue. Her career is in environmental
management, and she has worked for the State of Illinois. Currently, Alisa
is director of the Environmental Assistance Office for Small Business,
operated out of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In this
capacity, she develops environmental science workshops and trains teachers
in their professional development. She is active in her church, works with
Habitat for Humanity, serves her county's historical society and is editor
for Trailmarkers, a publication of her regional Sierra Club. She lives
with her husband, Greg, and their daughter, Ella Beth, in Concord, N.C.
