SERIES RECORD
DePauw leads the all-time series 105-72-1, but Wabash has
won the last five and six of the last seven. DePauw's
last win over Wabash came during the 1995-96 season by a
62-61 score in Greencastle. DePauw's last win in
Crawfordsville was in the 1994-95 season, 75-59. The five
straight wins is the most in the series for the Little
Giants since they won six straight from 1979-83.
COACHES
Bill Fenlon is in his ninth season with the Tigers with a
record of 108-74. In 15 seasons overall as a head coach
his teams are 216-143. since coming to DePauw in April of
1992, his Tiger teams have posted a 7-7 record against
the Little Giants. In three seasons as head coach at
Rose-Hulman he led the Engineers to a 5-0 record against
the Little Giants.
Mac Petty is in his 24th season as
head coach of the Little Giants and his teams have posted
314 wins. Since the beginning of the 1996-97 season,
Wabash teams are 65-19. He is 18-28 against DePauw.
TIGER NOTES
Dave Gifford's seven steals against Alfred tied a school
record that Eric Bruksch accomplished twice and Brett
Hecko once. It last occurred on Jan. 29, 1992, by Bruksch
against Anderson ... The 109 points allowed by the
Tigers in the first two games is the best defensive
effort in the opening pair of contests since the 1991-92
season when they allowed 107 to Washington and Centre
... Including games at the conclusion of last season
Joe Nixon has scored in double figures in nine of the
last 10 games and averaged 18.1 points and 6.0 rebounds
in those 10 ... The Tigers will likely be without
junior forward Joe Faires for the rest of the season due
to a back injury. Faires, who averaged 12.0 points and
6.4 rebounds last year, has yet to practice this season
... Bob Steiner's streak of 12 straight games with
at least one three-pointer made came to an end against
Wooster ... Nixon's 20 points and 12 rebounds marked
his first collegiate double-double ... Alfred's 30
percent shooting from the field against the Tigers was
the best DePauw defensive showing since they allowed
Oberlin just 28.8 percent in last year's second game
... The Tigers' 17 steals were the most by DePauw
since they had 17 in a 100-58 win over Concordia on Dec.
8, 1997.
