CONWAY, ARK. -
Improved play on the road was a major emphasis for Bill Fenlon's
Tigers this season and a tough pre-conference schedule is beginning to
pay off as the Tigers swept their two Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference opponents. DePauw's convincing 83-58 win at Hendrix marked
the first time in their three seasons in the SCAC, that the men's
basketball team won both weekend road games. The Tigers improved to 13-5
overall and 7-4 in the SCAC with their third road win in seven days.
Hendrix fell to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference. Four DePauw players scored
in double figures led by Jon Owens with 13 and Joe Nixon with 12. Joe
Rigger and Mike Howland each chipped in 10. The Tigers established
themselves early by scoring the game's first nine points with the last
two coming on Ringger's fast break dunk. DePauw stretched that margin
to a high of 16 points at halftime. The teams exchanged baskets
to open the second half before DePauw rattled off a 10-2 run to push
the margin to 53-29. It reached as many as 28 late in the game. DePauw shot 54 percent from
the field for the game including 65 percent in the first half and held
the Warriors to just 40 percent from the floor. The Tigers also outrebounded
the hosts 32-25 and were led by Nixon's game-high eight boards. Reggie
Talley led Hendrix with 10 points and six rebounds. DePauw returns to the Neal
Fieldhouse on Friday to face Oglethorpe University at 8 p.m.
