SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The
DePauw men's basketball team responded well off of Sunday's loss to
league-leading Millsaps by defeating host Trinity University, 70-58,
for their first win here since joining the SCAC. DePauw improved to 15-6 overall and
9-5 in the SCAC, while Trinity fell to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in
conference play. Joe Nixon led all scorers with 22
points followed by Joe Ringer with 13 and Matt Kleymeyer with a
career-high 11 off the bench. Quintin Mason led Trinity with 14 points
and eight rebounds. The Tigers never trailed and used a
20-2 run to turn a 10-9 lead into a 30-11 margin with 4:12 left in the
half. During that span Nixon scored 10 and Kleymeyer six. Nixon
finished the first half with 14 of the Tigers' 34 points. DePauw's 15
points allowed in the first half equaled their best defensive
performance in a half this season The lead reached as many as 23 points
in the second half as DePauw shot 52 percent over the final 20
minutes. The Tigers shot nearly 45 percent from the field for the game
against a team that allowed opponents just 37 percent shooting from
the floor this year. DePauw travels to Georgetown, Texas,
to face Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.
