In doubles play at the
NCAA Division III Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., Andy Post and Scott
Fisk lost their quarterfinal match to Josh Lefkowitz and Dan Matro of
Williams), 7-6(5), 6-4. The duo closed out the season with a 20-9 record.

Doubles Quarterfinals; Klyachkin ousted in singles
The doubles team of
senior Andy Post and sophomore Scott Fisk, seeded fourth at the NCAA
Division III Championships, battled back to win their first-round match
against Marco Bravo and Rob Candiotti of Redlands by a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2
score. On Tuesday, they face Josh Lefkowitz and Dan Matro of Williams who defeated Brett
Kaplan and Michael Miller of Emory, 7-6(3), 6-3.
Senior Yuri Klyachkin fell to Thomas Oechel of University of California-Santa Cruz in the first round of the NCAA Division III Singles Championship by a 6-2, 6-0 score. The Doubles Championship has started with Andy Post and Scott Fisk competing and seeded fourth.

NCAA Quarterfinals; Singles and Doubles Play Starts Monday
The Tigers lost in the
NCAA Division III Championship Quarterfinals by a 4-0 score to SCAC rival
Trinity in a match played to a decision. The Tigers lost the doubles point
as Trinity took wins at one and three doubles. They then won the match
with victories at one, three and four singles.

Tigers Face Rival Trinity in
NCAA Quarterfinals; Three Individuals Qualify for Championships
The DePauw men's tennis
team (21-5) faces Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Trinity
University (14-5) on Friday, May 19, in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA
Division III Championships at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. Match
time is set for 1 p.m. EDT. The two teams met on April 30 at Rhodes
College for the SCAC title with Trinity taking a 5-2 victory.
DePauw earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a first-round win over Denison University by a 6-1 score and a second-round victory against host Kalamazoo, 4-3. Trinity blanked Mary Washington on Sunday by a 7-0 score to reach the quarterfinals. Last year, Trinity advanced to the semifinals before losing to Kalamazoo.
The winner of Friday's match advances to Saturday's semifinals to take on the winner of the MIT-UC-Santa Cruz match.
Three individuals will be competing at the Championships as Yuri Klayachkin earned a spot in singles and the doubles team of Andy Post and Scott Fisk also qualified. Post was one of three alternates selected in singles competition. Singles and doubles competition begins on Monday, May 22 and concludes on Wednesday, May 24.
DePauw upsets host Kalamazoo to advance to NCAA Division III Quarterfinals
With the NCAA
second-round match tied 3-3, it all came down to number-five singles where
DePauw's Greg Nammari came back twice in the third set after being down
5-2 and 6-5 to
force a tiebreaker which he won 7-5 to send the Tigers to the NCAA
Quarterfinals. DePauw entered the match seeded third in the Midwest, while
Kalamazoo was second and the win was their first over the Hornets since
1960. The Tigers won four of the six singles matches as
Andy Post, Scott Fisk and Rick Lucas also won their matches. The Tigers
advance to the quarterfinals also at Kalamazoo College. Play begins on
Friday, May 19.

advance to NCAA second round after 6-1 win over Denison; set school record
for wins in a season
After winning all three
doubles matches to secure the doubles point, the Tigers wrapped up their
NCAA first-round match with Denison by winning five of the six singles
matches. The win lifted the Tigers' overall record to 20-5 and places them
in a second-round showdown with host Kalamazoo College. The 20 wins is the
most by any men's tennis team in school history. DePauw
lost to Kalamazoo 4-1 on April 8 in the Great Lakes Colleges Association
Championship match. The winner advances to the NCAA quarterfinals at
Kalamazoo next week.

DePauw to face Denison in NCAA first round
The Tigers, 19-5, make their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA
Division III Championship as they face 15-7 Denison University in a
first-round match on Saturday, May 13, at Kalamazoo College. The winner of
Saturday's match faces the winner of the Kalamazoo-Kenyon match on Sunday
for the right to advance to the national quarterfinals. DePauw is 2-0
against the Big Red this season as they won by 4-3 and 5-2 scores.
Overall, the Tigers have a 4-3 record against teams in the 27-team
tournament.
Tigers finish second at SCAC Championships after 5-2 loss to Trinity
For the second straight year the
Tigers finished second to Trinity at the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championships as
they fell 5-2 in
the title match. The Tigers reached the finals by defeating
Centre
9-0 and
Sewanee 4-3. DePauw, 19-5,
will now await word on a possible NCAA berth that will come on Monday, May
8.
DePauw improves to 17-4 with win over Taylor
The Tigers defeated visiting Taylor University 5-2 to raise their
record to 17-4 heading into the SCAC Championship at Rhodes College.

DePauw blanked Wabash
7-0 to move to 16-4 on the season. They took the doubles point by winning
two of the three matches and then won all six singles matches.

DePauw improved to 15-4 with a
convincing 7-0 victory over visiting Illinois Wesleyan. The Tigers took
two of the three doubles matches and won in straight sets in five of six

The Tigers have been awarded the number two seed at the SCAC. The
Tigers open play at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, against the winner of the
Millsaps-Oglethorpe match which will be played that morning.

Tigers complete weekend sweep with 5-2 win over Washington University
For the second straight day, the
Tigers took five of the six singles matches in defeating a
regionally-ranked opponent as they topped Washington University 5-2 at the
Blackstock Courts. The Tigers entered the match ranked third in the
Midwest, while Washington was fourth.

rankings of the spring season, the Tigers are ranked third in the NCAA
Division III Midwest Region. Kalamazoo is ranked first and Gustavus
Adolphus second. Individually, Yuri Klyachkin is ranked eighth in the
region in singles, while Andy Post is 23rd and Scott Fisk 32nd. In doubles
play, Post and Fisk are ranked sixth.

Championship finals
The Tigers dropped a
4-1
decision to Kalamazoo in the finals of the Great Lakes Colleges
Association Championship. The Hornets won two of three doubles matches and
then three of four singles as the match was played to decision. All four
singles matches went three sets.

The Tigers are 10-2 following a split of their four matches during their
Spring Break trip. The Tigers opened with a

win over Missouri-St. Louis and a
9-0 victory

Blackstock Courts. More details will be available on Monday. The match scheduled with Thomas More for Sunday has been

1999 ITA Central Regional tournament
DePauw once again
hosted the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
Small College Central Region Championships. A
total of 79 players representing 21 schools
competed for the singles and doubles titles and
the right to move on to the national
championships in Memphis in October.
