Kalamazoo doubles team of
Shockley and Cummings

 

Kalamazoo players take ITA regional titles

GREENCASTLE, IND. — Kalamazoo players made a clean sweep at the 1999 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championship at the Blackstock Courts on the DePauw campus.

Second-seed Kyle Harding won all six matches in the 64-player field including a three-set battle with unseeded Bryan Heft of Wittenberg in the championship match. Harding took the first game 6-1, but Heft won game two 6-3. Harding won the match with a 6-3 win in the third set.

 

In the semifinals, Harding knocked off third-seed Cole Newman of Denison in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Heft upset top-seed Dan Harding of Kalamazoo in the semifinals 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the title match.

 

In doubles play, the second-seeded team of Ryan Shockley and Ryan Cummings from Kalamazoo beat Jetton and Anderson of Illinois Wesleyan 6-2, 6-1.

The winners now advance to the ITA Small College Championships in Memphis in October.
