DePauw Hosts NCAA Championships

GREENCASTLE, IND. - DePauw University plays host to the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, May 18-23, at the Blackstock Courts.

Team competition begins with four quarterfinal matches on Friday, May 18, and continues with semifinals on Saturday and the championship and consolation matches on Sunday.

The Blackstock Courts and the new indoor center (in background) provide an excellent setting for this year's Division III Championships.

The individual championships begin on Monday, May 21, and include 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The first day includes the first two rounds of singles and the first round of doubles.

Quarterfinals and semifinals in singles and quarterfinals in doubles take place on Tuesday. Wednesday's action includes the singles championship as well as the doubles semifinal and championship matches. Selections to the singles and doubles field will be announced on Monday, May 14.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships," DePauw Director of Athletics Page Cotton said. "With nine resurfaced outdoor courts and our new indoor facility and its six courts, we feel that DePauw is a perfect site for the national championships."

The first round of the 27-team tournament begins at sites around the country on Saturday, May 12, with second round play slated for May 13. The winners of those regionals advance to the quarterfinals at DePauw. The entire tournament field with host sites and pairings will be released by the NCAA on Monday, May 7.

The Blackstock Courts have served as hosts for the NCAA College Division Championships in 1964 and 1971.
