March 1, 2009, Louisville, Ky. — DePauw moved to 4-2 on the season after recording a doubleheader split with Transylvania in games played at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Ky. The Tigers won the opening game by an 8-5 count, but dropped the nightcap 6-5.
DePauw jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opener and never looked back. Transylvania scored once in the bottom of the ninth and had the potential game-winning run at the plate, but Hobs Donovan struck out the final two batters for his first save.
Taylor Hoffman, Mike Stout and Rob McPike each collected two of the Tigers' 10 hits, while Justin Weiner, Hoffman and McPike each drove in a pair. Seven different Pioneers had one hit each.
David Morefield improved to 1-0 with the win, while Adam Wilkins dropped to 1-1
The Tigers scored four in the fourth of the nightcap to take a 4-1 lead, but Transylvania eventually tied the score and plated the game-winner on Michael Derringer's two out single.
Weiner had three of DePauw's eight hits and stole two bases to total eight for the weekend. Weiner also drove in three and Gardner scored two.
J.B. Blanchard suffered the loss in relief and dropped to 0-1, while Daniel Rhea improved to 1-0.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 7, when they host Illinois Wesleyan and Hanover.
