Riffle Named SCAC Player of the Year Again; Five Tigers Earn All-SCAC Honors

November 25, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. —  Senior forward Sarah Riffle, the top scorer in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this year, was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season in voting by the conference's head coaches.

Riffle (left) led the SCAC in points (28) and points per game (1.65) and was tied for the lead in goals scored (12), goals per game (0.71) and game-winning goals (3). The eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) she scored against Transylvania in September were the second-most in a single game in league history. Riffle earned SCAC Player of the Week honors twice this year and finished her career with 32 goals and 70 points both of which rank third all-time in the conference. She shared the SCAC's top offensive award last year with Sewanee's Lynn Hancock.

Joining Riffle on the first team were senior defender Becca Rojek (right) and junior goalkeeper Liz Attewell (below left). The honor for Rojek was her third straight as the Tigers' top defender. She was an SCAC Defensive Player of the Week once this year. Attewell also earned SCAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades once this season and posted seven shutouts with a .767 saves percentage and a 1.43 goals against average.

Sophomore forward Kimberly Trainor and freshman forward Bridgette Shamleffer each were named honorable mention. Trainor, the SCAC Co-Newcomer of the Year in 2008, was second on the team with seven goals and 17 total points. Shamleffer finished with four goals and a team-high six assists.

The Tigers finished the season with a 12-8 overall record and a 5-3 mark in SCAC games and were runners-up at the SCAC Tournament.
