November 25, 2007, Crestview Hills, Ky. - DePauw shot just 34.8 percent from the field and just 53.3 percent from the line in a 65-59 loss at Thomas More in the Julie Costello Memorial Tournament. The Saints' win snapped DePauw's 14-game win streak and dropped it to 3-1 on the season. Thomas More remained unbeaten at 4-0.
The Tigers, ranked second in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Preseason Poll and fifth by D3hoops.com, trailed by as many as 10 in the first half at 22-12 before battling back with a 14-3 run to take a 26-25 lead late in the first half. Amanda Link's layup as time expired gave the Saints a 27-26 halftime lead.
DePauw led early in the second half and still held a 45-42 advantage after Jenna Fernandez scored a layup with 10:21 left. The Saints scored the next seven and took a 49-45 lead.
The Tigers closed to within 54-53 on back-to-back baskets by Fernandez, but the Saints extended the lead to 59-53 on Jayme Thiem's layup and Alex Gee's three. Gretchen Haehl knocked down a three with 36 seconds left, but Thomas More nailed all six of their free throws down the stretch.
Haehl led DePauw with 13 points, while Kalei Lowes added 12. Emily Marshall grabbed a game-high seven rebounds as DePauw held a 41-37 edge on the boards. Haehl and Lowes each earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Link, the tournament team, led all scorers with 22, while Thiem added 13 and Gee and Nicole Dickman each had 10. Dickman also earned all-tournament honors.
DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, December 1, when it travels to Centre for a 1 p.m. contest.
