August 29, 2008, Wheaton, lll. - With one goal in each half, the Tigers opened the 2008 season with a 2-0 victory over Eastern (Pa.) University in the Bob Baptista Invitational at Wheaton College.
Katy Phillips opened the scoring at 31:46 on an assist from Julia Drummond before Drummond scored at 60:41 on Lauren Hannan's assist.
Eastern outshot the Tigers 14-10 and held a 6-2 edge in corners. Brooke Shipley recorded nine saves in goal for DePauw, while the Eagles' Amanda Daveler finished with five stops.
The Tigers face California Baptist at 11:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday. The Lancers entered the season ranked seventh in the NAIA national poll and play Wheaton later today.
