September 5, 2008, Hanover, Ind. - The Tigers opened play at the Hanover Invitational with a pair of pool play wins over Spalding and Principia and improved to 5-1 on the season.
DePauw topped Spalding 3-2 (25-16,23-25,23-25,25-18,15-12) before rallying to defeat Principia 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 17-25, 25-11, 15-7).
In the Spalding match, Erin Cunningham led the way with 13 kills, while Ali Smith totaled 43 assists and Emily Smith added 32 digs. Kristen Chynoweth and Adrienne Cobb paced the Tigers with nine blocks apiece.
Cobb led with 13 kills and eight blocks against Principia, while Emily Smith had 29 digs and Dana Genet followed with 24. Ali Smith paced the squad with 48 assists and two service aces.
The Tigers face Franklin on Saturday morning and conclude play in the afternoon.
DePauw won both of its Saturday matches and finished with a 3-1 record and in third place at the Capital Invitational
