November 21, 2008, Crawfordsville, Ind. - Franklin used a 15-6 run late in the second half and grabbed a 75-61 win over DePauw in the opening game of the Little Giant Tipoff Tournament. DePauw dropped to 0-1, while Franklin improved to 1-2.
DePauw led by three on a couple of occasions in the first half before Franklin closed the half with an 11-2 run for a 27-21 halftime advantage.
The Grizzlies pushed the margin to as many as 10 midway through the second, but DePauw rallied to within four at 52-48 on David Gray's bucket with 6:39 left.
Will Conoley's layup with 6:01 left made it 54-48. Conoley wasn't able to convert the three-point play, but was fouled on the rebound and nailed both free throws.
Conoley added a bucket with 5:28 remaining to extend the lead back to double digits and the Tigers got no closer than eight the rest of the way.
Tom Callen and Gray each scored 13 for the Tigers, while Sean Haseley grabbed eight rebounds. Jace Redman led Franklin with 15 followed by Dustin Marshall with 13 and Conoley with 12.
Franklin outshot DePauw 48.1 percent to 44.7 percent, but the Grizzlies hit 4 of 15 three-pointers while the Tigers failed to connect on 12 attempts from beyond the arc and committed 20 turnovers.
DePauw's failure to connect on a three-pointer snapped their 447-game streak with at least one. The Tigers' last game without hitting a three was on February 19, 1991, against Taylor.
The Tigers face Wabash at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the third-place game. Wilmington topped the Little Giants, 69-50, in tonight's second game.
