March 26, 2009, Pineville, La. — DePauw, ranked seventh by Division III Softball-The Newsletter and 16th in the latest coaches' poll, dropped a 1-0 decision at Louisiana College (2nd coaches/6th Div. III Newsletter). The second game was canceled due to weather.
DePauw's Megan Soultz and the Wildcats' Kelly Williams locked up in a pitcher's duel as the two teams were scoreless through four innings.
Allison Frye led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and moved to second on Caitlin Bankston's sacrifice bunt. Soultz got Mary Alice Roy looking on strikes, but Ashleigh Clement delivered a two-out single which brought home Frye with the deciding run.
Only four Tigers reached base with just one advancing as far as second. Brianne Weeks paced the team with two of their three hits while Rachel Gill added the other.
The Wildcats totaled seven hits with McCaslin Carter leading the way with two.
Soultz and DePauw each dropped to 10-5 on the season, while Williams improved to 5-3 for 16-4 Louisiana College.
DePauw faces Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday in a doubleheader at Louisiana College.
DePauw entered the week with a 10-2 mark and remains ranked in both national polls
