March 27, 2009, Pineville, La. — DePauw improved to 12-5 following a doubleheader sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor in games played at Louisiana College. The Tigers, ranked seventh by Division III Softball-The Newsletter and 16th by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association won by scores of 4-2 and 3-0. The Crusaders dropped to 7-11 with the losses.
In the first game, DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Brianne Weeks reached on a dropped third strike and moved to second on a passed ball. Rachel Gill drew a walk before Jennifer Kosinski slammed a three-run homer.
The Crusaders countered with two in the top of the second as Kelsey Greeson led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout and to third on Lindsay Gordon's base hit. Jordan Schrutka followed with a two-run double. Gill scored the games' final run in the third after Kelly Schwerzler drew a bases loaded walk.
DePauw totaled just two hits in the win, but reached base six times on walks. Mary Hardin-Baylor had five hits led by Schrutka's two. Megan Soultz improved to 11-5, while Greeson dropped to 3-6.
In the nightcap, Chelsy Patterson led off the first with a double and later scored on Emma Minx's single. Gill scored in the third on Carolyn Bartlett's base hit, while Weeks added the final run after Gill lifted a sacrifice fly to right. The game was halted after six innings due to weather.
DePauw totaled 13 hits in the win led by Gill's three and Patterson's two. Three different Crusaders had one hit apiece. Soultz improved to 12-5 with the shutout, while Mandy Staton dropped to 3-4.
The Tigers wrap up their Spring Break trip on Saturday with a doubleheader at Mississippi College.
