April 8, 2009, Terre Haute, Ind. — Rose-Hulman scored two runs in each of the first three innings and never trailed on the way to an 11-2 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 15-13, while the 24th-ranked Engineers improved to 18-6.
Chandler Kent walked in the first and scored on Keenan Long's double. Long then scored when Chris Stemple followed with a single. Kreigh Williams was hit by a pitch in the second and Andrew Bilse hit a two-run homer to right.
The first three Rose-Hulman hitters reached in the third before Michael Kovacs and Troy Eveslage each delivered one-run singles making it 6-0.
They scored three more in the sixth as Bilse singled before Tim Tepe reached on a catcher's interference. Long's double scored Bilse and Stemple lifted a sacrifice fly to left scoring Tepe. Michael Cramer then singled home Long.
The Tigers reached the board in the seventh when Mike Stout reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored when Rob McPike's grounder got past the Rose-Hulman first baseman. McPike moved to third on Jon Newman's single and scored on Drew Holy's sacrifice fly to center.
Rose-Hulman scored its final two runs in the eighth when Tepe singled, Long walked and Daniel Prochno singled to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Andrew Pinkstaff singled in Tepe and Kovacs hit a sacrifice fly to right.
The Tigers totaled just four hits as Newman had two. Rose-Hulman finished with 13 hits as Long had three with Bilse, Stemple and Kovacs each had two.
DePauw returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday when they host Centre in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
DePauw took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference nightcap with Birmingham-Southern, but the Panthers scored seven and swept the Tigers by scores of 6-2 and 11-10
