May 7, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Sixth-seed Thomas More battle back from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings and then scored one in the top of the tenth for a 4-3 win over Adrian in game two of the first round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The Saints improved to 35-9 with the win and will play in game six on Friday at Noon. Adrian dropped to 34-7 and will play in Friday's game five at 10 a.m.
Adrian scored three in the third as it loaded the bases with two outs and Meghan Stevens followed with a single that scored Krissy Sheets. Jenna Kloster then reached on an error in right field which allowed Holly Lowe and Sarah Hall to score.
Thomas More reached the board in the sixth as Dana Bors singled with one out and moved to second on Kim Prahl's groundout. Desiree Zink entered as a pinch-runner and scored on Lisa Wiesman's single.
In the seventh, Steph Stadtmiller led off with a single and moved to second on Jennifer Lang's grounder. Jennifer Weis singled to move Stadtmiller to third and then stole second. Brittany Wegman then delivered a single which scored both and tied the game.
Wegman advanced to second on the throw and to third on an error and appeared to have scored the go-ahead on Bors' sacrifice fly, but she was out on appeal for leaving third early.
Kim Prahl reached on a error with one out in the tenth and moved to third on Lisa Wiesman's single. Samantha Ladenburger's bunt landed in front of home plate for a base hit and plated Prahl with the game-winner.
Thomas More totaled 12 hits in the win with Stadtmiller and Wiesman each finishing with three and Weis two. The Bulldogs finished with seven hits and were paced by Hall's two.
Bors improved to 16-1 with the win and recorded six strikeouts without a walk. Kelly Tomasek dropped to 22-3 and finished with five strikeouts.
Liz Decima's one-out single to center in the bottom of the ninth scored Mandi Fought and lifted top-seed and fourth-ranked Ohio Northern to a 4-3 win over fourth-seed Trine in the day's final game in the first round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship
