May 9, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Second-seed and 15th-ranked DePauw scored three each in the fourth and fifth innings and blanked fifth-seed Defiance by a 7-0 score.
The Tigers improved to 31-8 and face Ohio Northern at Noon on Sunday. DePauw needs to top the Polar Bears twice in order to advance to the Division III finals at Montclair State. Defiance ended its season at 30-16.
DePauw loaded the bases in the fourth before Carolyn Bartlett singled home Jen Kosinski and Rachel MacBeth walked to score Ashlee Anton. Chelsy Patterson followed with a single to right which plated Kelly Schwerzler.
Emma Minx led off the fifth with a single, moved to second on an illegal pitch and scored on Rachel Gill's single. Kosinski followed with a two-run homer to left. The Tigers' final run came in the seventh as Minx singled and scored on Kosinski's triple.
Kosinski had three of DePauw's nine hits and drove in three in the win, while Minx had two hits. Four different Tigers had one hit apiece.
Megan Soultz improved to 28-8 with her second shutout of the tournament and allowed just four hits while striking out six. Justine Johnston dropped to 19-10 with the loss.
