Tigers Win Third Straight on the Gridiron; Dick Sets Single-Game TD Record

October 10, 2009, Memphis, Tenn. —  DePauw senior quarterback Spud Dick broke the school record with six touchdown passes and led the Tigers to a 52-26 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Rhodes.

The Tigers improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC with their third straight win, while the Lynx dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

DePauw scored on its first three possessions as Dick tossed touchdown passes to Anthony Meek, Alex Koors and Bryan Mulligan. He threw a fourth in the final minute of the first half to Brayden Dahlstrom to make it 28-0. The Lynx scored with three seconds left in the half to close the halftime gap to 28-7.

Jordan Havercamp's 31-yard field goal early in the third made it 31-7 before the Lynx scored on Matt Gilbert's 2-yard run late in the third.

Derrick Karazsia's 10-yard run early in the fourth pushed the lead to 38-14, while Gilbert added another touchdown run from the 1 to make it 38-20.

Koors caught Dick's fifth scoring pass of the day for a 28-yard touchdown before Josh McMurray ran it in from 1-yard out with 4:39 left. The Tigers rounded out the scoring when Dick teamed with Nathan Evans for a 5-yard strike with 1:41 remaining.

The Tigers outgained Rhodes 505-409 after holding a 276-102 advantage in the first half.

Dick completed 25 of 36 passes for 343 yards with the six touchdowns (to five different players) and no interceptions. He had thrown five TD passes on two previous occasions as five players accomplished the feat a total of nine times.

Koors caught six passes for 126 yards and two scores, while Mulligan caught five for 96 and one score and Dahlstrom finished with five for 46 yards. Karazsia rushed for 96 yards on 16 carries, while Jon Ellis totaled 70 yards in 13 tries.

Rhodes' Brett Stoots completed 20-of-33 for 215 yards with Tyler Perkins completing 7-of-8 for 94 yards. Jake Jackson hauled in nine for 116 yards with Jack Lartigue following with eight for 78 yards. McMurray rushed for 54 yards on just seven carries.

Ryan Preuss led DePauw with 11 tackles, while Jonathan Lambert followed with 10. Ryan Woodard had two of the Tigers' four sacks with Alex Fitch and James Foglton each adding one.

Matt Strok paced Rhodes with 11 tackles and Andy Boucher had 10. The DePauw offensive line again did not allow a sack and have given up just two all season.

DePauw is off next week before returning to action on Saturday, October 24, when it hosts Trinity.
