NORTH MANCHESTER, IND.- Susan Bender scored a career-high
24 points and Erin Mulford added a season-high 14 on seven-of-eight field
goal shooting to propel the Tigers to a 69-51 Indiana Collegiate Athletic
Conference victory over Manchester College on Tuesday. The win was the Old
Gold's first in North Manchester since the 1989-90 season and lifted their
record to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in ICAC play. Manchester slipped to 7-10
and 2-3. The victory was also the Tigers' fourth straight and 11th in the
last 12 games.
The Tigers handled the 40 minutes of full-court pressure well and played tough defense in holding the high-Spartans to their season-low point total. DePauw broke open an 8-8 game with a 9-0 run over a stretch of 2:18 in the first half. They extended the lead to as many as 13 points and went into the intermission with a 37-24 lead.
The lead never dipped below double digits in the second half as the Tigers held the Spartans to just 29 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.
Dona Haskett led the Tigers with seven rebounds and Bender added a game-high six assists. Emily Compton led Manchester with 13 points followed by Jaime Wilson with 12.
The Tigers begin the second half of ICAC play by hosting Franklin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
