Tigers Blow Grizzlies Away

DePauw moves to 16-3 in lopsided 70-43 win against Franklin College.

GAME STATISTICS

GREENCASTLE, IND. DePauw started slowly in this Saturday afternoon Neal Fieldhouse contest, but by the time it was over, 15 DePauw players had put points on the board. All 18 who dressed played.

Freshman Ann Hall (Bourbon, Ind./Triton) led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points. Sophomores Kirstin Rhinehart (Westville, Ind./Valparaiso) and Jana Mathis (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) each had nine points. Dona Haskett (Fr., Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Erin Mulford (Sr., Versailles, Ind./South Ripley) had eight apiece.

Susan Bender (So., Indianapolis/Roncalli) had a bad shooting day but still had 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Jenn Hein (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa/West) was a Tiger on the boards with 13.

Franklin, which has traditionally been a nemesis for the Tigers, had an abysmal shooting day 11 percent in the first half and only 19 percent for the game.

Adding to the shooting woes for the Grizzlies was that DePauw swept them off the boards to the tune of 63-38. DePauw also blocked a school and ICAC-record nine shots. Mary Hand (Fr., Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) equaled the DePauw single-game individual mark with four blocks.

Kelly Puckett led Franklin, and all scorers, with 14 points. Michelle Singer added 10 and played a creditable floor game.

DePauw moved to 16-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Franklin fell to 4-13 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

DePauw plays next Tuesday (Feb. 4) at conference-leading Hanover (6-0). Hanover beat the Tigers at home so the road game has huge conference tournament seeding and home-court implications.
