Tigers Railroad Engineers 96-43

DePauw's talent, experience, depth too much for young Rose-Hulman program.

GAME STATISTICS

By Mike Lillich, University Editor

GREENCASTLE, IND. - DePauw started slowly, but then the Tigers got things rolling they couldn't be stopped in Saturday's 96-43 win over Rose-Hulman. The win was the Tigers' seventh straight and 14th in the last 15 games.

Kelly Morrison (So., Warren, Ind./Huntington North)led the way with 21 points. Susan Bender (So., Indianapolis/Roncalli) added 18 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists.

Freshman Ann Hall (Bourbon, Ind./Triton) scored 10 points. Fellow frosh Dona Haskett had eight points and seven rebounds; Jamie Selip (Fr. Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons Township) continues to develop at the point (seven points, four assists), important because sparkplug soph Paula Boback is out for the year with a knee injury.

The halftime score was 38-20. But DePauw came out of the locker room, turned up the defensive pressure, ran the out to 59-23 lead and never looked back. Fifteen players scored for the Tigers as Coach Kris Huffman cleared the bench.

DePauw shot 55 percent from the floor and were 12-13 from the free-throw stripe. Their almost total dominance didn't stop there, though. The home team more than doubled up on the Engineers in rebounds (44-20), assists (26-7) and steals (15-4).

Bessie Fulk (whose brother Brent played at DePauw) led Rose with 15 points. Amanda Speich scored 14.

The win was the Tigers' seventh straight and 14th out of their last 15. DePauw moved to 18-3 (7-1 in the ICAC); Rose fell to 2-18 (0-8 in the conference).

DePauw's next game is on the road against Anderson on Tuesday (Feb. 11). The Tigers then finish the regular season with two home contests: a non-conference game against Mount St. Joseph on Feb. 15 and a conference game against Manchester on Feb. 18.

The conference tournament begins Feb. 27.
