TIGERS CAPTURE OWN INVITATIONAL TITLE; HALL NAMED MVP

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's basketball team improved to 7-2 and won for the third straight time as they defeated Otterbein 72-57 in the championship game of the DePauw Invitational.

 

Rookie Ann Hall (Bourbon, Ky./Triton) led the Tigers with 23 points and nine boards and was named the tournament's most valuable player. The Tigers led 31-19 at halftime, after committing just four turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Otterbein opened the second half by cutting the lead to 33-25 at the 17:45 mark before Hall took over. She buried a three and then a two and then another two to lift the Old Gold to a 40-25 advantage just 1:40 later. Later in the second half, the Cardinals got back to seven at 46-39 on Jenny Burns' layup with 10:31 to play.

 

Following a Tiger timeout, the hosts roared back with seven straight as Dona Haskett (Fr., /Brownsburg/Brownsburg) scored four and Kelly Morrison (Warren/Huntington North) added a three-pointer to make it 53-39 with 8:39 left. The lead reached as many as 19 after Hall's three-point bomb with 2:17 left.

 

Paula Boback (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Barrington) was the other double-figure scorer for the Tigers with 14 and she led with seven assists. Jenny Lambert scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Otterbein.

 

In addition to Hall, the all-tournament team included Boback, Lambert, Julie Ottinger of Olivet and Susan Brindle of Simpson.

 

The Tigers won for the 18th time in their last 20 games at Neal Fieldhouse and take a couple of weeks off before facing Webster on the road on December 30.
