It's Mount Union against St. Thomas in sectional final

Mount Union used a second-half rally to topple St. Benedict, 79-74, and earn a spot in the West Sectional finals. They will take on St. Thomas, an 80-61 winner over DePauw. Mt. Union, 27-2, is ranked third in the WBCA Division III poll and St. Thomas, 26-1, is ranked second. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m CST at St. Thomas' Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul, Minn.


        
Tigers Fall to Tommies, 80-61,
        finish season at 23-5 

        
The Tigers ran into a tough opponent on Friday as host
        St. Thomas defeated the Old Gold, 80-61. Kelly Morrison
        led the Tigers with 18 followed by Susan Bender with 15
        and Kelly Bailey with 11. Kirsten Vipond paced the
        Tommies with 24 and Paige Olson added 11. St. Thomas
        advances to the sectional final to face Mount Union. The
        Purple Raiders defeated St. Benedict in Friday's second
        game. Thanks for following the Tigers in what has been a

We realize that even the most fanatical supporters may
        not be able to make the trek to the Twin Cities, so we
        have some alternatives to offer. WGRE (91.5 FM) will
        bring the live play-by-play of the game to West Central
        Indiana. If you are outside of their listening area, you
        can still listen by calling Teamline at 1-800-846-4700.
        You then will enter DePauw's code of 4613 and be asked to
        key in your Visa or MasterCard information. Charges begin
        at 50 cents per minutes, but the per-minute cost declines
        as you listen longer. The total costs for a game should
        run under $50. If there is interest out there, we will
        offer another alternative. We will provide a running
        play-by-play as it happens (assuming everything goes as

Tigers to face
        second-ranked St. Thomas in West Sectional 

        
Winners of 15 straight and a school-record 23 games
        this season, the women's basketball team travels to St.
        Paul, Minn. to face the University of St. Thomas Tommies
        on their home court. For the hardcore fans, here are some
        game notes. 

        
Tigers advance to "sweet 16" with 70-63 win
        over Baldwin-Wallace

        The Tigers extended their record
        win streak to 15 games and set a new mark for wins in a
        season as they topped Baldwin-Wallace 70-63 to advance to
        the round of 16 in the NCAA Women's Basketball
        Championship. Susan Bender had a career day with a
        career-best 31 points and seven rebounds. She canned 15
        of 16 free throws to set a DePauw record for free throws
        made and was just one shy of tying the Division III
        Championship mark of 16. 

        
The Tigers led by two at halftime and after Anderson's
        basket with 3:55 left, the game was tited for the fourth
        time in the half and eighth for the game. The Tigers then
        scored the next nine points (eight by Bender) to go ahead
        63-54 with just 1:02 left. The Tigers hit their free
        throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

        
As a team the Tigers canned 29 of
        36 from the charity stripe. They needed every one as
        Baldwin-Wallace held a 40-33 advantage on the boards and
        grabbed 21 offensive rebounds. Shauna Van Horn came off
        the bench to lead B-W with 15 points, while Jen Swinehart
        added 13, Shannon Anderson 12 and Lori Peddicord 11.
        Peddicord grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Ann Hall added
        13 for the Tigers and Kelly Bailey grabbed a team-high 10
        rebounds. The Tigers will hit the road for a Friday the
        13th showdown with the winner University of St. Thomas
        from St. Paul, Minnesota. St. Thomas defeated Central
        (Iowa) 85-56 on Saturday. The site of the West Sectional
        will be determined Sunday afternoon.

        

        
Tigers Host Yellow
        Jackets in Second Round Clash on Saturday

        
The DePauw women's basketball team makes its second
        appearance in three years in the NCAA Division III
        Championship when it hosts Baldwin-Wallace
        College on Saturday. Tipoff at the Neal Fieldhouse is
        set for 3 p.m. 

        
Baldwin-Wallace edged Hope
        College on Wednesday evening, 75-71, in a first round
        game. The Tigers take a school-record 14-game win streak
        into Saturday's game and have posted a school-record
        tying 22 wins against just four losses. Baldwin-Wallace,
        likewise, enters the game with a school-record equaling
        23 wins against only five losses.

        
Tickets for Saturday's second round game are $4 for
        adults and $3 for students and are available in the
        athletic department office on the second floor of the
        Lilly Center from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. through Friday.
