Tigers fall to second-ranked
Tommies, 80-61; finish season with school-record 23 wins
The Tigers' exciting season came to an end in St.
Paul, Minn., on Friday evening as they fell to the
nation's second-ranked University of St. Thomas Tommies,
80-61. The Tigers led early, 8-6, but the hosts went on a
29-2 run and never looked back in gaining a 47-25
halftime lead. Kelly Morrison led the Tigers with 18
followed by Susan Bender with 15 and Kelly Bailey with
11. Kirsten Vipond, the Division III leader in field goal
percentage at nearly 72 percent, hit 11 of 13 from the
floor on the way to a game-high 24 points. Paige Olson
added 18 and nailed four of six from three-point range.
St.Thomas hit 59 percent for the game and the Tigers
connected on just 35 percent. A more complete wrapup of

The Tigers hit 29 of 36 free throws and Susan Bender
scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Tigers to a
70-63 second-round win over Baldwin-Wallace at the Neal

Tigers earn second trip
to NCAA Division III Championship
For the second time in three years the Tigers are
headed to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Tigers,
22-4 on the season and winners of their last 14, earned a
first round bye and will host the winner of Wednesday's
Hope (16-10) at Baldwin-Wallace (22-5) contest. The
second round game is scheduled for Saturday , March 7 at
3 p.m.
Tigers celebrate
76-62 championship win; NCAA tourney probable next step
Backed by tournament MVP Kelly Bailey's career highs
of 16 points and 17 rebounds, the Tigers made it a clean
sweep in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference as
they won the conference tournament after going undefeated
in the regular season conference loop. The Tigers led by
as many as 10 in the first half, but Manchester battled
back to close the gap to two at halftime. The Spartans
tied the game on the opening possession of the second
half, but the Tigers went on a 14-4 run to get the margin
back to double digits. The spread was just seven with
5:02 left after Jaime Wilson buried two free throws, but
DePauw scored six straight as two Bailey jumpers
sandwiched a pair of free throws from Susan Bender. Kelly
Morrison led the Tigers in scoring with 17, while Bender
added 14. Both joined Bailey on the all-tournament team.
Manchester's Leanne Lake and Wilson earned spots on the
team as did Hanover's Leslie Fryman. The Tigers will
learn their NCAA tournament fate on Sunday evening. You

Tigers win 13th straight;
go after tourney title on Saturday
A 14-4 run in the opening seven minutes of the second
half pushed the Tigers' lead from 12 to 22 on the way to
a 76-44 win over Anderson in the second semifinal game of
the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's
Basketball Championship. The Tigers were led by Kelly
Morrison's 17 and Kelly Bailey's 11. DeAnn Edge led
Anderson with 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. The
Tigers take on Manchester at 3 p.m. on Saturday for the
championship.
Manchester
defeated Hanover 70-60 in the first semifinal
game.
Tigers host ICAC
tourney this weekend
DePauw's Neal Fieldhouse is the site for this
weekend's semifinal and championship games of the seond
ICAC Women's Basketball Championship. The first game on
Friday tips off at 6 p.m. and features number two seed
Manchester against the winner of Thursday's Rose-Hulman
at Hanover game. DePauw plays the 8 p.m. game against the
winner of Thursday's Franklin at Anderson game. Friday's
winners square off at 3 p.m. on Saturday. For a complete

Tigers move up to second in Great Lakes Region and
14th in WBCA national poll
The Tigers are picking up steam as the regular season
comes to a close and the postseason begins. DePauw moved
up to second in the Great Lakes Region poll from their
previos ranking of fourth. They also moved to 14th in the
nation in the
Women's
Basketball Coaches Association Division III poll.
Morrison,
Tigers lead Division III in three-point shooting
For the second consecutive week, Kelly Morrison and
the DePauw Tigers lead Division III in three-point field
goal percentage. Morrison is connecting on 51.4 percent
of her trey attempts, while DePauw is hitting 41.0
percent as a team. Morrison also ranks 19th in free throw
shooting at 82.2 percent. DePauw ranks third in free
throw percentage and fourth in rebound margin.
Tigers wrap up perfect
ICAC season with strong second half
After leading by just two at halftime, the Tigers
outscored visiting Franklin 45-19 in the second half for
a 74-46 win. The victory was the Tigers' school- record
12th in a row and lifted their overall record to 20-4.
The Tigers finish ICAC play at 10-0 and are the first
team to win 10 conference games since the ICAC went to a
10-game schedule in 1995-95. Susan Bender led four DePauw
double-figure scorers with 16 points. Amy Hasbrook
grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and Kelly Bailey added
13 boards as the Tigers outrebounded Franklin 59-33. The
Tigers will host the ICAC tournament semifinals and
championship games next Friday and Saturday. DePauw will
play the winner of the Franklin-Anderson game which will
be played on Thursday. Tipoff for DePauw's game on Friday
is set for 8 p.m.
Tigers are the
champions . . . of the ICAC
The Tiger women earned a hard-fought 61-52 win at
Manchester and by so doing, captured the 1997-98 Indiana
Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. The win was
also their 11th straight and equaled a school record.
Susan Bender led the Tigers with 18 points on nine-of-11
shooting, while Kelly Morrison added 16 points. Amy
Hasbrook hauled down 14 rebounds for the Tigers who
outrebounded the Spartans, 44-29. Leanne Lake led
Manchester with 15 points. The Tigers held Manchester to
just 28 percent shooting from the field. The Tigers will
now host the ICAC semifinals and championship games on
February 27-28.
Five Tigers score in
double figures; Bender posts first DePauw triple-double
in DePauw win.
In one of the biggest games of the season, the Tigers
came up really big and defeated Thomas More, 76-66. The
win was the Tigers' 10th straight and lifted their
overall record to 18-4. Kelly Morrison scored 22 points
to lead five Tiger double figure scorers. Susan Bender
posted the Tigers' first-ever triple-double as she
finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.
Sherry Clinkenbeard led the Saints with 31 including 24
in the first half.
Tigers' defense stymies
Ravens; Old Gold wins ninth straight
The Tigers held host Anderson to just 27.5 percent
shooting for the game and only 15 percent in the second
half on the way to a 70-49 ICAC victory. The win lifts
the Tigers' overall record to 17-4 and their ICAC mark to
8-0. It was also their ninth straight win. Kelly Morrison
led the Tigers with 18 followed by Ann Hall with 13 and
Susan Bender with 11. Kelly Bailey hauled down 11 boards
and blocked two shots to raise her season total to 30
which is a DePauw record.
Tiger defense does the job
in eighth straight win
Tough first-half defense and 59 percent shooting from
the floor lifted the Tigers to a 46-18 halftime lead on
the way to a 73-36 win at Rose-Hulman. DePauw is now 16-4
overall and 7-0 in ICAC play. Kirstin Rhinehart was the
lone double-figure scorer for the Tigers with 11 points.
Amy Hasbrook totaled 11 rebounds as the Old Gold
outrebounded the Engineers 46-33. Kelly Bailey recorded
two blocked shots to lift her season total to 28 which
ties the school record by Karla Reissler (1982-83) and
Jenn Hein (1993-94).
Tigers hold on for tight
win over Hanover
Alicia Smith's jumper with eight seconds left was off
the mark and the Tigers rebounded to preserve the ICAC
victory at the Neal Fieldhouse. The game was knotted at
66-66 after Smith's jumper with 1:16 left, but Amy
Hasbrook and Paula Boback each hit one of two free throws
in the final minute for the final margin. Smith led all
scorers with 25. Kelly Morrison led DePauw with 18
followed by Ann Hall and Boback with 11 apiece. The
Tigers remain in first place in the ICAC at 6-0 and the
win was the seventh straight for the 15-4 Tigers.
Tigers finish first half
of ICAC play at 5-0 with 75-65 win at Franklin
Kelly Morrison's 19 points paced four DePauw
double-figure scorers as the Tigers won their sixth
straight game by defeating Franklin 75-65. The Tigers
shot 57 percent in the first half on the way to a 46-28
lead, but committed 16 second- half turnovers in the
10-point victory. Ann Hall added 17 points and Susan
Bender chipped in with 15 points, five rebounds and six
assists. Amy Hasbrook recorded a double-double with
career highs of 12 points and 14 rebounds.
26th-ranked Tigers go to
4-0 in ICAC with 76-61 win over Spartans
Kelly Morrison poured in a career-high 28 points in 24
minutes and Amy Hasbrook equaled a career high with 13
rebounds as the Tigers turned it on in the second half to
defeat Manchester 76-61. The win puts the Tigers in first
place by themselves.
Tigers remain unbeaten in
ICAC play after 74-43 blowout
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 14 point lead and
Anderson got no closer than seven the rest of the way as
the Old Gold defeated the visiting Ravens 74-43. The win
was the fourth straight for the 26th-ranked Tigers. Erin
Wolfe netted a career-best 13 points, including four
three-pointers, to lead the Tigers. Kelly Bailey added 12
points and 12 rebounds and Susan Bender dropped in 10
points.
Record crowd watches
Morrison tie three-point record and Tigers roll to
28-point win
A DePauw women's basketball record crowd of over 800
watched the Tigers roll past St. Mary's 73-45 to improve
to 11-4 on the season. Kelly Morrison scored a
career-high 24 points and tied the school record with six
three-pointers including five in the first half. Ann Hall
added 10 points and Amy Hasbrook hauled down a
career-high 13 rebounds as the Old Gold outrebounded the
Belles, 52-32.
Tigers roll past Engineers,
90-40
Ann Hall scored a career-high 28 points and Kelly
Morrison added 18 off the bench to lead the Tigers to a
90-40 ICAC win over Rose-Hulman. The Tigers used a 14-2
run over the final seven minutes of the first half to
take a 38-18 halftime advantage and then scored 17 of the
first 23 points of the second half to put the Engineers
away. Hall scored her points in just 26 minutes. Kelly
Bailey added 10 points and Amy Hasbrook grabbed 11
rebounds and recorded four steals. The Tigers
outrebounded Rose-Hulman 50-20.
Tigers open ICAC play with
impressive win over Hanover
DePauw outrebounded Hanover 45-30 and turned the ball
over only 16 times in earning a 58-41 win over the host
Panthers in the ICAC opener for both teams. Susan Bender
led the Tigers with 18, while Kelly Morrison chipped in
14 points-all in the second half. Kelly Bailey added 10
points and a game- high 13 rebounds. Bender also led the
Tigers with six steals.
Tigers lose tough one to Big
Blue; open conference play Tuesday
A sloppy first half put the Tigers in a hole, but they
battled back to lead by as many as five with just over
four minutes left. Millikin's K.C. Hammond scored a layup
with nine seconds left to grab the 57-55 win. Ann Hall
led the Tigers with 24 and Kelly Morrison followed with
15 all of which came in the second half.
Tigers fall in Goombay title
game; Hall named to all-tourney team
The Tigers trailed by as many as 13 early in the
second half to Simon Fraser, but rallied to take the lead
before finally losing, 74-65. Ann Hall led the Tigers
with 22 and Kelly Morrison added 13. Kelly Bailey hauled
down 10 rebounds. Hall was named to the all-tournament
team.
Tigers win nail-biter; play for
Goombay title on Monday
Dona Haskett's steal and two free throws with 1.6
seconds left preserved the Tigers' 53-50 win over Bethany
(Kan.) in the semifinals of the Great Bahamas Goombay
Shootout. The Tigers, now 8-2, play Simon Fraser on
Monday for the title. Erin Wolfe and Susan Bender each
scored eight points and Amy Hasbrook grabbed eight
rebounds to lead the Old Gold. The see-saw game included
13 ties and 17 lead changes and neither team led by more
than four points.
Tigers Pound Graceland on
Boards; Win Opener at Goombay Shootout
Ann Hall scored a career-high 27 points and Susan
Bender recorded a double-double to lead the Tigers to an
80-67 win over Graceland at the Great Bahamas Goombay
Shootout in Nassau. The Tigers take on Bethany (Kan.)
which defeated Muhlenberg 59-30.
Tigers pull away from Hornets
for Invitational title
The Tigers blew open a close game in the second half
to capture the DePauw Invitational championship by
beating Kalamazoo 74-56. Ann Hall and Jamie Selip each
scored 11 and Kelly Bailey added 10. Bailey grabbed 15
boards and Dona Haskett hauled in 13. Hall and Bailey
were named to the
all-tournament
team.
Tigers roll past Dominican; face Kalamazoo in title
game
Erin Wolfe scored 12 off the bench and Susan Bender
added 10 to lead a balanced Tiger attack to a 73-47 win
over Dominican (Ill.) University in the DePauw
Invitational. The Tigers face Kalamazoo at 3 p.m. on
Saturday for the title. Kalamazoo defeated Eureka 73-62
in the opening game.
Trojans blitz Tigers early and
often to take easy win over Tigers
The Tigers saw their four-game win streak go by the
wayside as host Taylor came oput quickly and never
trailed in taking an 86-67 win. The Trojans scored the
first 11 and held a 23-3 lead just 6:17 into the contest.
Kelly Morrison led the Tigers with 16 followed by Ann
Hall with 13. Sarah Krause led Taylor with 22.
Tigers blow out MacMurray; win
fourth straight
The Tigers used a 23-0 run that bridged the first and
second halves on the way to a 90-46 thumping of visiting
MacMurray College. Erin Wolfe scored 14 to lead the
Tigers who move to 4-1 on the season. Ann Hall added 12
and Kelly Bailey had 10 to go along with a game-high
eight rebounds. Susan Bender dished out seven assists,
recorded four steals and scored nine points in the win.
The Tigers travel to Taylor for a battle with the Trojans
on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Tigers build big lead early;
hold on for road win
The Tigers built an 18-point halftime lead on the
strength of 54 percent shooting from the floor and made
it hold up in an 80-70 win at Marian College. Ann Hall
scored 22 and Susan Bender added 20 in the victory. The
3-1 Tigers host MacMurray at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Tigers Knock off Captial for
second straight win
The Tigers held Capital to just four points over the
final 9:41 and outscored the Crusaders 17-4 during that
stretch to take a 67-54 win over the perennial Division
III power. Kelly Morrison scored 14 with Susan Bender and
Erin Wolfe each popping in 10. In her first collegiate
start, Kelly Bailey grabbed 13 rebounds. The Tigers are
at Marian on Tuesday.
Tigers Bash Illinois College
96-56 to even record at 1-1
Ann Hall and Kirstin Rhinehart each scored 16 points
to lead the Tigers to a 96-56 win over Illinois College
in the consolation game of the Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff
Tournament. The Tigers, 1-1, host Capital on Saturday.
Tigers drop opener to Bears;
consolation game set for Saturday
The Tigers opened the 1997-98 season with a 72-67 loss
to Washington (Mo.) University in the opening game of the
Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff Tournament. Susan Bender led the
Tigers with 16 points and Ann Hall added 13, but the
Tigers were outrebounded 47-31. The Tigers will play the
loser of the Illinois Wesleyan-Illinois College game.
