DePauw
splits final two games in Australia
The Tigers finished with a 2-1 record during their trip to
Australia as they defeated the Sutherland Sharks by a 60-52 score
on Wednesday. Colleen Powers led DePauw with 13 followed by
Lindsey Rush with 11. The previous day, the Tigers fell to the Bankstown Bruins by an 87-51 count. Dana Ferguson and Kim Weigle
each scored 10 in the defeat.
Tigers
win first game in Australia
Led by 10 points each from seniors Lindsey Blackman and
Lindsey Rush, the Tigers opened play in Australia with a 78-62 win
over New South Wales Metro in their first of three games. The game
was played at the Sydney Superdome which was the site of the 2000
Summer Olympic Game basketball competition.
The teams played a first half that consisted of two 10-minute periods and a second half of two, 12-minute periods. The Tigers trailed 10-9 after one and grabbed a 24-20 lead at halftime. They led 48-38 after three before scoring 30 points over the final 12 minutes. The New South Wales Metro team was a young Australian all-star team. Other scorers for the Tigers included Colleen Powers and Kim Weigle with nine each, Heather Wiles with eight and Erin Miller, Kapica Davis and Dana Ferguson with seven apiece. Sarah MacKay added five, Jill Schneider four and Mandy Harrison two.

The DePauw women's basketball team departs on Friday, August
3, for a 10-day trip that includes stops in Australia and
Honolulu, Hawaii.

Rush named to the
All-South First Team
DePauw junior guard Lindsey Rush was one of five players
chosen to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association of America
all-District 5 team. Rush led the Tigers with a 15.7 points per
game average.
Three Tigers earn
all-SCAC honors
DePauw juniors Lindsey Rush and Sarah MacKay as well as
sophomore Meredith Miles have been named all-Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference selections. Rush was a first team choice,
while MacKay and Miles earned honorable mention.

Tigers lose to Centre;
at-large bid only possibility for postseason play
DePauw lost at home to Centre by an 85-76 score and, in the
process, fell into a three-way tie for the SCAC title with the
Colonels and Sewanee. Centre won the tiebreaker and the automatic
bid to the NCAA Championship by virtue of their 3-1 record against
DePauw and Sewanee. Sarah MacKay led the Tigers with a career-high
23 points and dished out five assists. Jennifer Patterson paced
Centre with 25 and Beth Johnson followed with 20. The Tigers only
chance of getting into the tournament is to pick up one of the
seven at-large bids. Those selections will be announced on Sunday
evening.

Tigers fall for first
time at home; winner-take-all showdown with Centre on Saturday
The Tigers lost for the first time at the Neal Fieldhouse this
year as they fell to Sewanee 74-65. Lindsey Rush led DePauw with
18 points, while Meredith Miles added 14. Jill Schneider grabbed
11 rebounds to lead DePauw, but the Tigers were outrebounded
42-32. Michelle Chambers led all scorers with 28 and equaled an
SCAC record with eight three-pointers. The loss leaves the Tigers
with a one-game lead over both Sewanee and Centre entering the
final night of conference play on Saturday. DePauw hosts Centre at
6 p.m. with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to
the NCAA Championship.

one spot to first in the NCAA South Region. The Tigers can
clinch their third bid to the NCAA Division III Championship in

A 17-3 run in the second half lifted the Tigers to an 80-55
home win over Rose-Hulman. The victory also gave the Tigers a
share of their third straight SCAC title and fifth straight
overall (including two in the ICAC). Lindsey Rush paced the Tigers
with 21 points.

The nationally-ranked Tigers had their eight-game win streak
snapped at Rhodes in a 72-68 loss, but not before they nearly
erased a 21-point deficit in the final six minutes and a 13-point
margin in the final two minutes. Lindsey Rush led the Tigers with
20 who shot just 39 percent from the field to Rhodes' 53 percent.

while Tria Yoder and Colleen Powers each added 10. The totals for
Schneider and Yoder were career highs. Schneider equaled a career
best with 12 rebounds and also recorded four steals. Michelle
Unger and Christina Forsyth each scored 13 points for the

rally to defeat Hendrix and move into first-place tie in SCAC
DePauw trailed Hendrix 44-38 with just under eight minutes to
play, but scored the next 10 points over the next 5:26 to take a
four-point lead. Hendrix closed the gap to 51-50 on Meg Frazier's
layup with 12 seconds left, but Lindsey Rush buried two free
throws with nine seconds remaining to seal the win.

In a game that featured nine ties and 16 lead changes, the
Tigers pulled away in the second half for a 55-44 Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Rhodes College.
DePauw scored seven straight in a four-minute stretch to take a
44-37 lead with seven minutes remaining. The Lynx battled back to
within five at 48-43, but the Tigers outscored Rhodes 7-1 in the
final 3:17. Sarah MacKay led the Tigers with 10 points and equaled
a career high with seven rebounds. Jill Schneider hauled down a
career-best 12 rebounds. Kerry Wingo paced Rhodes with 13.

Sixth-ranked George Fox used a 9-0 run late in the game to
hold off the Tigers in a 64-58 victory in the championship game of
the adidas D3 Desert Shootout in Las Vegas. The Tigers fell behind
by 10 in the first half before closing to within two at halftime
and taking a one-point lead on a couple of occasions in the second
half. Meredith Miles led the Tigers with a career-high 18 points
followed by Lindsey Rush with 16. Jill Schneider grabbed eight

The Tigers led the entire game and were up by as many as 20
points in the second half on the way to a 49-34 win over
third-ranked University of Scranton at the adidas D3 Desert

12 points and Schneider hauled down nine boards in the victory.

The Tigers play host to three other Division III schools in
the two-day DePauw Invitational. DePauw takes on Hanover College
at 6 p.m. on Friday with Ohio Wesleyan and Kalamazoo battling in
the 8 p.m. game. The losers meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the
winners square off at 3 p.m.
Tigers'
second-half rally falls short in loss at Centre
DePauw never led and trailed by as many as many as 19 in the
first half in a 71-59 loss at Centre. The host Colonels scored the
first seven points of the second half to take their biggest lead
of the game at 44-20. The Tigers then went on a 15-3 run to cut
the gap in half and they later closed the gap to eight points on a
couple of occasions. Lindsey Rush led the Tigers (3-2, 1-1 SCAC)
with 21 points including 19 in the second half.

The Tigers used a 24-2 run that bridged the halves to overcome
a first-half deficit and win the season's first Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference game, 66-52 at Sewanee. The Tigers

the first half as Lindsay Rush scored nine of her game-high 22
during the stretch. DePauw then opened the second half by scoring

60-55 score in the home opener at the Neal Fieldhouse. In the
final 1:27, junior guard Katie Imborek scored a basket, grabbed
both a defensive and offensive rebound and hit two free throws
with just 31 seconds remaining to stretch the Tigers' lead from
one to five.
The game included 17 lead changes and five ties and neither team had more than a five-point lead. Meredith Miles led the Tigers with 17 points, while Lindsey Rush added 14 and Jill Schneider had 10. drops heartbreaker to three-time defending national champions
The Tigers, ranked 21st in the

D3hoops.com poll, led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but
couldn't hold on as three-time defending national champion and
top-ranked Washington University rallied for a 52-49 win in the opening game
of the Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff Tournament. Lindsey Rush hit four
of her five three-pointers in the first 14 minutes of the contest
as the Tigers built a 25-13 lead. The Bears extended their NCAA
(all divisions) women's basketball record win streak to 69 games
by gaining the lead for good with 4:59 left. They built that
margin to five before DePauw closed it to 50-49 with 1:29 left.
Washington's Tasha Rodgers scored with 18 seconds left and Rush's
three-pointer as time expired didn't fall. Rush finished with 19
points, while Jill Schnieder added 10 and 11 rebounds.

In the D3hoops.com preseason poll the Tigers are ranked 21st
in Division III. Three of DePauw's opponents this season and a
possible fourth are also ranked in the top 25. Washington
University, the season-opening foe is ranked number one as it
enters the campaign as the three-time defending national
champions. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Sewanee is
16th in the nation and DePauw tangles with them at Sewanee in
their first conference game on December 1 and in Greencastle on
February 23. The Tigers also play 13th ranked Scranton on December
19 in the D3 Desert Shootout at Las Vegas, Nev. George Fox, ranked
11th is a possible opponent in that tournament.

poll
DePauw is picked to finish third in the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll. Trinity, with 86
points, is the coaches' pick to win the 2000-01 title. Sewanee is
second with 85 points, DePauw third with 83 and Hendrix fourth
with 79. Trinity and DePauw each picked up three first-place
votes, while Sewanee and Hendrix each had two.
