19th-ranked Tigers advance to SCAC semifinals with 71-43 win

Memphis, Tenn. (2-27-03) - DePauw advanced to the semifinals of the inaugural Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a 71-43 win over Oglethorpe.

 

DePauw improved to 21-4 on the season and will face Hendrix at 1 p.m. CST on Friday. Oglethorpe finished the season with a 12-14 record.

 

Kim Weigle led DePauw with 14 points, while Dana Ferguson posted a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds and Sarah Zondor added 10.

 

Oglethorpe was led by Nichole Gilleland who scored a game-high 26 while playing all 40 minutes. Heather Francoeur, the all-time leading scorer in SCAC history left the game in the first half after sustaining an ankle injury early in the contest. She finished with three points in 16 minutes.

 

The Tigers never trailed and jumped out to a 17-3 lead midway through the first half on the way to a 32-11 halftime advantage. DePauw limited Oglethorpe to just 11.5 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and 30.2 percent for the game. The Tigers also held a 54-30 advantage on the boards and committed just six turnovers.
