GREENCASTLE, IND. -- This was the match that the Tigers wanted to win very badly. A win over the nation's third-ranked team and last year's national semifinalist would certainly take the sting out of last weekend's loss to Kalamazoo. However, the third-ranked University of Chicago had other things in mind. The Tigers outshot the visiting Maroons 15-14, but Chicago held a 10-7 shots on goal margin in gaining a 2-1 victory. The Tigers fell behind early as Chicago's Teresa Prendes scored in the game's first minute. The score remained 1-0 until the half, but the Tigers did suffer a big blow when rookie goalkeeper Susie Tingle (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) left the game late in the first half with a possible broken leg. The Old Gold responded in the second half as freshman Laura Cordes (Ketchum, Idaho/Wood River) scored on an assist from classmate Beth Walse (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) early in the half. The Maroons, however, came back in the latter stages of the second half as Jessica Berry broke free and scored the game-winner. DePauw falls to 2-2 with the loss, while Chicago improves to 2-0. DePauw hosts Heidelberg in a key regional matchup on Saturday at 3 p.m.
