Gordon T. Pittenger

Gordon L. Pittenger is a member of the Sommer Barnard PC Litigation and Intellectual Property Groups and also practices extensively in the areas of legal ethics and professional responsibility. He has served as managing partner and a member of the executive committee. Currently, Pittenger not only serves as a member of the executive committee but also as general counsel to the fi rm. His primary practice areas are commercial litigation, legal ethics and appeals. Pittenger also advises lawyers and law fi rms concerning professional ethics and liability issues. Pittenger, a Rector Scholar, graduated from DePauw in 1973 with high honors, including Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving a NCAA postgraduate scholarship in 1973, he earned a J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1977 and was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1977. A letterman in basketball, Pittenger ranks fourth in University history with an 18.1 career scoring average; seventh with 318 free throws made; ninth with 1,360 career points; and 10th with 521 fi eld goals made. He led the team in scoring three years, fi eld goal percentage twice and free throw percentage once. In addition to the NCAA postgraduate scholarship, he was named an Academic All-American. Pittenger and his wife of 33 years, Cindy Capp ’75, are the parents of two daughters and one son. When his children were younger, he was actively involved with the Jordan Y.M.C.A. and coached his children’s recreational and AAU sports. Currently, his basketball is limited to occasional shooting in the driveway, but he continues to be involved in recreational running, cycling and water sports.
