John W. Ward

John Ward gained athletic distinction at DePauw as a basketball player. In 1926 he was selected for the first team of the All-Western basketball squad chosen by the Chicago Tribune along with players from several Big 10 schools. He coached high school basketball at Tipton for 16 years and nine years at Elwood (IN). He had but one losing season, earning him recognition as the Dean of Indiana high school basketball coaches at the time of his retirement. In 1970 he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He now lives in Elwood where they recently named the "John Ward Gymnasium."
