Leonard H. Yorke
Class: 1956
Inducted: 1995
Sport(s): Track & Field (Men's)
Lennie Yorke came to DePauw in 1952 from Brooklyn, NY, and his performances in track and field still rank among the best in DePauw history. Yorke won the 100-and 220-yard dashes as the Indiana Collegiate Conference and Little State meets during his sophomore and junior years. As a sophomore he led the Tigers in scoring and was unbeaten in 12 races during the regular season. At the Big State Meet he finished second in the 100- and fourth in the 220-yard dash as a sophomore. During his junior year, Yorke unofficially earned the title of the State's best collegiate sprinter when he won both the 100- and 220-yard dashes at the Big State Meet. His time of 21.3 seconds in the 220 broke a 25-year old school record. A pulled muscle during his senior year was the only thing that kept him from breaking more records. Yorke also earned a letter in football as a junior.
